Tama 14x5.5 Aluminum Snare Reviews 5

I purchased this drum from Drumcity Guitarland in Wheatridge Colorado. I needed a snare for my new Tama Starclassic Performer EFX kit. I paid $232.00 for the drum.

The drum has a naturally muted sound. aluminum is a softer metal than steel and vibrates less. This is a nice feature, especially if you hate putting tape, o-rings, or other types of muting material on your snare. The drum has a nice crack with only a slight ring. It has all the depth of wood with the punch of a metal snare. Rim shots are loud and cutting. The price is fare for what your getting.

Im used to snare drums that have strainer adjustments knobs on both sides of the drum. Tama likes to use only one snare adjustment. I also noticed that the newer snare drums are being made in Taiwan instead of Japan. Its probably not a big deal, but made in Taiwan usualy means cheap.

Construction seems solid. The drum has ten lugs instead of eight which helps with tuning. the drum feel realy light and I probably wouldn't want to bump the shell against anything hard. The finish is a natural brushed aluminum finish. It looks cool.

I would highly recommend this snare to anyone, especially those who have a hard time tuning. The drum sounds fat when tuned loose and loud and punchy when tuned tight. The price is nice and the look is just a little different.
